I recently got my East Coast fix when Student Universe flew me out to Boston to speak at the CollegeFest: Travel Show.
I got a kick out of being a part of the travel industry for a day as I tried to show students just how much of the world is available to them. But after the event was over I was at a loss of what to do.
Last time I was in Boston I did all the touristy things–walked the Freedom Trail, visited Fenway Park, cheered in a sports bar during a Patriot’s game–so this time I went with the flow.
I also managed to destroy my phone the last night of my stay and lose most of my pictures, (that blurry shot of the Boston Commons is the only landmark shot that remains, cue small violin) so you’ll have to use your imagination a little.
Picture me:
Joyfully polishing off greasy pizza slices larger than my head. Speed walking through the wicked cold one day and then lingering in the sunny Boston Commons the next. Thanking the hostel worker who gave meย his own rice to try and save my phone after I dropped it in water. Applauding manically for Carol Burnett after finding a last-minute ticket to her show in the theater around the corner.
And that doesn’t even cover Sunday afternoon. Everything seemed to align. The sun was so warm on the shoulders of Boston, and families, couples, and lone wanderers like myself took it as an invitation. We all took our place on the streets, sharing theย space between the red brick buildings. A student I’d met at Collegefest was free to meet up and we wandered and got footage and talked about all our creative dreams coming true as we sat on the edge of the Harbor. (Good news– you can catch her vlog here! Look for my cameo!)
Good people, good food, good weekend. Thanks Student Universe. Thanks Boston!
