With the recent explosion of remote work, more and more people are looking for ways to pack their laptop, find stable wifi, and start their lives in a new and exciting location. While many countries offer digital nomad visas, some come with high entry requirements and can be cost-prohibitive (*cough* Iceland and it’s $7000 minimum, *cough*). According to ZipRecruiter, the average work-from-home job salary is $3,173/month and fortunately, there are still visas that will fit that budget.

Here are 6 digital nomad visas with low minimum entry requirements!

How To Prepare:

Are you ready to apply for a digital nomad visa? Requirements vary from country to country, but it’ll speed your process along to have these documents accessible and at hand:

  • Proof of employment/monthly income
  • Proof of health insurance
  • Proof of financial means
  • Proof of accommodation

Colombia |  Monthly Income ~$650

Colombia’s digital nomad visa allows foreigners to work remotely in the country for up to two years.

Depending on your travel plans, you may not even need to apply for this digital nomad visa. If you’re a passport holder from a country exempt from needing a short-term visa, you are able to stay in Colombia for 6 months out of the year. This is dependent on you not generating any income from Colombian entities, and only from a foreign employer.

In order to be eligible for this program, applicants must have health insurance and earn at least 3 million COP (roughly $650) per month, which is the country’s minimum wage.

Cape Verde | Monthly Income ~$1500

The Republic of Cabo Verde, commonly referred to as Cape Verde, is an archipelago situated off the Western shoreline of Africa.

Brazil is an attractive destination for digital nomads due to its reasonable cost of living, attractive beaches and Amazon rainforest, as well as lively cities such as Rio de Janeiro. Remote workers have been flocking to a South American country, even prompting the construction of a “nomad village” in Pipa, a northern surf town.

Brazilian law firm CGM states that digital nomads residing in Brazil for more than 183 days within a 12-month period must pay local income tax.

Hungary | Minimum Income ~$2000

The “white card,” also known as the Hungarian digital nomad visa, permits foreign national remote workers to stay in Hungary up to one year and may be renewed for a second year.
