Maybe it’s the weather, maybe it’s the ending of restrictions, but whatever it is, people are heading to outdoor bars in Budapest in droves. I have a real soft spot for summer in Budapest (after all, that’s when I first visited)–and the open air bars have something to do with that. If you’re looking for an outdoor bar in Budapest, I’ve rounded up some of my favorites for you! Egészségedre!
Köleves Kert
I have a really soft spot for this place (after all, it was the first ruin bar I ever visited in Budapest), and it’s a favorite for many others as well. It’s always full in the summer! Its colorful garden is a prime spot to sip a fröccs in the heart of downtown’s party district, the Jewish Quarter. And if you’re lucky, you might even be able to snag a hammock! Aside from their garden, you can go next door to Köleves Vendéglő for some hearty Jewish fare (it’s delicious! I would definitely recommend!)
Zsiraf
Just a step back from the bustling Teréz Körút, you’ll find (or probably hear) Zsiráf bar! This large, open terrace next to Nyugati train station often fills Eiffel Square with bustling partiers, casual cocktails, and acoustic or DJ sets. Just hop off of the 4/6 tram at Nyugati and join the party!
Budai Parkszinpad
Let’s go over to the Buda side, away from the tourists, and grab a seat at this favorite of locals. Overlooking the lake at Feneketlen Tó park, sit out under strung up lights of Nagyszinpad and enjoy your drink in the open air!
Fröccsterasz
Right at the beating heart of the city, Fröccsterasz is a popular meeting place at Deák Ferenc Ter. On particularly sweltering summer nights, the crowd overflows into the neighboring park where you can dip your feet in the pool of Akvarium club. And if you’re really feeling like a tourist, you can mosey over to Erszebet Park behind and take a ride on the Budapest Eye!
360 Rooftop Bar
For a drink above the city head to 360 Rooftop Bar (1000HUF entry from Thursday-Sunday). One short elevator ride and you’ll be treated to a panoramic view of Budapest–and delicious cocktails to sip as you take it all in! Check their program for live music, especially throughout the summer. And bonus: when it gets cold, they set up igloos so that you can continue sipping over the city’s horizon.
