I don’t know about y’all, but now that autumn is here, I just want to curl up somewhere cozy and warm. Luckily for us, Budapest has plenty of cozy wine bars that can help us do just that! Hungary has some world renowned wine (like in Badacsony and Eger), and these Budapest wine bars can help you experience the best of it! Cheers!
Bortodoor
If your Hungarian is a little rusty, “bor” means “wine”. So no wonder that Bortodoor is a wine subscription and delivery service, as well as a wine bar. I love spending time in this light and bright space because it’s so welcoming. The owners started Bortodoor because they wanted to take the snobbery out of wine, and to help everyone along on their own wine journey. (And they are so friendly! Try talking to Smike or Suze without cracking a smile, I dare you!)

Le Troquet
Budapest has often been called the “Paris of the East”, so it’s no wonder a French wine bar has made its home here. Both longtime wine lovers and curious beginners are welcome to take a seat in this small, friendly Budapest wine bar. With a wine list that’s 100% français, this help you fall in love with France, one glass at a time.

Kadarka
Kadarka Bár specializes in Hungarian wine (after all, it’s named after one of the most beloved varieties!). In fact, the Kadarka menu is a love letter to all Hungarian wines, highlighting not only the famous ones, but the lesser known ones as well. Even though it’s in the middle of tourist stomping grounds, this Budapest wine bar has kept its local flavors. It’s hard to beat a night on their terrace under the glowing lights, sipping a dessert tokaj and munching on pogácsa. Tables fill up quickly, though, so be sure to make a reservation!
Drop Shop
Tucked away down the street from the famous Parliament building, Drop Shop is not only a wine bar, but a wine vendor as well. Drink your way around the world with their international menu, or even gift someone with the experience of a wine tasting with one of their gift cards. Check out their site to see more of what’s on offer!
