By this point, you all should know how much I love wine–especially Hungarian wine. So it was only a matter of time before I put my (very limited) skills to the test and tried out Wine Mafia–a blind wine tasting event at Bortodoor!
Bortodoor has found a way to turn wine tasting into a game with this popular event. And better yet–there’s NO previous knowledge of wine required (which is good news for me, let me tell you). Whether you want to start your wine tasting journey, or you want to sharpen your very impressive set of skills, this event is open to all!
Bortodoor is one of my favorite wine bars because of its inclusivity and good-natured atmosphere. There’s no snobbery that often comes with the world of wine. Owners Suze and Smike have helped me learn so much about wine just by talking with me about what I like!
How Does This Blind Tasting Event Work?
Over the evening, you taste six anonymous wines–three white and three red. With the help of a cheat sheet, you mark down the wine’s vintage, grape variety, alcohol content, and region. There’s even some trivia thrown in! The winner either receives a bottle of wine or a free pass to the next Wine Mafia event!
After hearing about it for months, I was so glad to finally try this event at my favorite Budapest wine bar. It was a great way to drink with old friends, laugh with new people, and learn a little bit more about wine. And don’t worry if you’re not a wine expert–you can take this as seriously or as casually as you want. Some people do it as practice for their tasting exams, and some people do it to get tipsy with their friends on a Wednesday night. Can’t fault either of them!
