When I think of “Hungary” I think of:
- paprika
- the Danube
- Beethoven???
Hungarian fact of the day: Beethoven used to live in Hungary as the resident composer at Brunswick Castle. And thanks to C and his wonderful family, I got to go see a live orchestra perform some of Beethoven’s famous pieces on the grounds of the very castle where he once lived!
I only caught a glimpse of the castle’s exterior (although, there is a museum there, if you’re interested), because we spent our time before the concert wandering around Brunswick’s peaceful grounds instead. I don’t know how to describe to y’all how idyllic it was–that smooth lake and those gentle giant trees and the slightly rolling lawn all bathed in golden hour light.
But soon it was time for the concert, so we followed the crowd along the lake, across the bridge, and onto the island (yup, an island) where the concert was being held.
Listening to Beethoven under a canopy of leaves on an island wasn’t how I ever thought I’d spend a Sunday evening in Hungary, but I’m glad life proved me wrong.
If you’re interested in this type of event, keep an eye on the Castle’s website!
