Cycling Through the City: Joining the I Bike Budapest Bike Parade

Hello hello! I just wanted to pop in for a quick minute to tell you about one of the best spring events in Budapest! If you love cycling then you won’t want to miss it! Enter…the I Bike Budapest Parade!

Basically, it’s the one day a year when cyclists take over the city. Major roads are shut down and hundreds of people ride their bikes through Budapest. It’s a demonstration to ask the government to create better cycling infrastructure around the city, so that we can all bike safely. More and more bike paths have been popping up, but if you’ve ever tried to bike through the city center, you know there’s still room for improvement, hehe.

It’s joyful and fun and such a rush! I did it in 2024 and had such a good time. I swear I meant to write about it back then, but then the weather was nice and my friends and I were tired from cycling, and so we opted to get Aperol spritzes in City Park instead. Honestly, it was a perfect afternoon. So that’s why I’m writing this now: so that hopefully you can join the bike parade and have as good of a time as we did!

When is the I Bike Budapest Bike Parade?

It takes place every spring, most often in late April. This year, it’s scheduled for April 26th, 2025.

Who Can Join?

Anyone! When I went there were kids, families, couples, and singles! We all came out to celebrate cycling!

What is the Route?

The event organizers have posted the full route here. The parade starts at 15:00 at City Hall Park and will end at approximately 17:00 on Margaret Island. You can join at any time and at any place on the route! Just bring your bike!

Tip: If you don’t have a bike, you can rent a Mol Bubi! Just get to your desired location early, as they’ll probably all be taken. I showed up to Corvin half an hour early and got one of the last bikes there.
