Are there any coupon-lovers out there? I love a deal as much as the next traveler, so there’s no way I’m going to keep this Budapest resource from you!

When I first moved to Budapest in 2017, I knew there would be a lot of costs to setting up my new life. That’s why I was so grateful when when of my coteachers at the kindergarten introduced me to Qponverzum!

Basically translating to “coupon universe”, this site compiles all of the Hungarian coupon sites into one, and gives you a singular database to search through. Some of the most popular categories are:

• Travel! Both domestic and international travel deals on hotels/transportation, etc.

Now you all know that I don’t mind investing in experiences (like that ski trip in the French Alps or tickets to see the Nutcracker at the Hungarian State Opera House), but if there’s an opportunity to save money, then why not take it? Qponverzum is really helpful if you want to work on your Budapest budget for the month, and still want to factor in dinners, date nights, or other activities.

How to Use Qponverzum

Don’t skip this crucial step!

You need to book ahead and tell them you will be paying with/using a coupon. If you’re confident in your Hungarian (or have a Hungarian friend who can help you), you can do this over the phone. Otherwise, use Google Translate and do it over email. Just make sure you get confirmation. Don’t just show up and expect to use your coupon; it may not be possible. Also, be sure to print it out.

Save Money in Budapest With Qponverzum Tips:

• Install a Translate function in your browser. Qponverzum does not have an English version, so you’ll need to translate it to navigate the site easily.
• Research the coupon provider before booking. Not all coupons are created equal (I see this a lot in the massage/cosmetic treatment coupons). Any business can post on this site, so make sure to research that it’s a reputable business before booking.
• Check the blackout dates: This is especially relevant for hotel or travel deals. A lot of times they’ll black out certain holiday weekends. Make sure you’re able to travel on relevant dates!
