Christmas Eve is tomorrow and that means that the time for playing Christmas music is in full swing!
This is my third Christmas living in Budapest and I’ve finally started to become familiar with some of the classic Hungarian Christmas carols, like this one called “Kis karácsony, Nagy karácsony”. My tiny kindergartners have been singing this alllll December, so no wonder it’s gotten stuck in my head!
Christmas can be such a hard time when you’re living abroad. Of course it’s a time when you want to feel close to all of the familiar people and scents and traditions that have shaped you your whole life. But over these two and a half years I’ve found more and more things that make Hungary feel like home, new things that give me comfort even as I miss the things from the US. This song is one of those things!
(Pronunciation/translation is a victim of my beginner’s Hungarian, thanks for following along anyways 🙂 )
What’s your favorite Christmas carol? Let me know in the comments below!
