This weekend was short and sweet, so I’ll keep this article the same. 3 hours on the train from Budapest and you’ll wind up in Badasconytomaj, a bite-sized town on the coast of Balaton Lake. Although I came for relaxation, it turned out to be…a workout? Easy to do when there are so many cute wineries and wine bars dotted along the rolling hills (Badacsony is nicknamed the Tuscany of Hungary, after all).
Hotel Neptun was the perfect middle point to walk up to the hilltop wineries or down to the peaceful lakefront. Coming at the edge of shoulder season meant I could see this small town’s main square bubbling with life, the energy of summer already well on its way.
This trip was the perfect reminder of the blessings of a solo trip: no need to make conversation or compromise on where you want to eat (Katica Etterem was so tasty, by the way). Just all the time in the world to sift through all my own thoughts, whether journaling from a wine terrace (Istvan BormΕ±hely is a must!) or devouring ice cream by the waterfront. Even going out dancing (Frissterasz) by myself couldnβt be lonelyβI was adopted by one of the many bachelorette parties!
Writing this from the train, my legs are sore, my mind is refreshed, and I feel like Iβve had enough frΓΆccs to last a lifetimeβ¦until next weekβs wine festival, that is. Letβs get this Budapest summer started!
